Molly Moon’s Reopens in Madrona

Molly MoonsMolly Moon’s has reopened their Madrona location after closing this past October for the winter.  When Molly Moon’s opened their micro-store in Madrona last May it was an experiment.  Molly Moon’s learned from their experience and have reopened the store after a mini-renovation.  When Molly Moon’s originally opened they did not serve scoops due to the size of the location and limits by city regulations, but they have reconfigured the store to allow for scoops of five different flavors.  Gone are the Mollipops, but now in addition to scoops you can order sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches and more.  Go visit the new improved Madrona Molly Moon’s.  They are now opened daily from noon to 10 PM.

St. Clouds Music Scene

St CloudsNot only does St. Clouds Restaurant have good food and fine spirits, the Seattle restaurant has great music as well.  Nearly every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday St. Clouds features live music.  The live music sets up just to the left of the restaurant’s main entrance where it can be enjoyed by the patrons in the bar area, and also can be heard in the main dining area as well.  Tom Bennett and The Rolling Blackouts are regulars on Mondays with various bands playing Thursday through Saturday.  This weekend Tim McHugh plays Thursday, The Wiretappers play Friday (as they do every 3rd Friday), and Saturday is Courtney Andrews.  The music usually plays from 8 PM to 10 PM.  Click the link to see St. Clouds Seattle music schedule and find the best time to enjoy music, food, and drink at St. Clouds in Madrona.

Pagliacci Pizza Coming to Madison Valley

Zaw PizzaI never have recovered from when Kentucky Fried Chicken moved out of their location from the Madison entrance of the Arboretum.  I was only a kid when they moved, but I still refer to it as the old Kentucky Fried Chicken location.  The tenant currently is Spotless Cleaners, but after so many years, a wrong is being righted with the news that Pagliacci Pizza is coming to the space.

Pagliacci Pizza needs little introduction to Seattleites.  Started in 1979 in the University District which is about the same time Kentucky Fried Chicken left the location on Madison where Pagliacci is taking over.

From its new location, Pagliacci will deliver to such Seattle neighborhoods as Madrona, Madison Park, Leschi and Capitol Hill.

Restaurant Bea Opens Friday

Restaurant Bea

Good friends Kate Perry and Tom Black are opening their new restaurant, Restaurant Bea, this Friday, March 30th.  Taking over the space once occupied by Cremant and later June, Kate and Tom have a created Bea from their restaurant expertise – Tom as a chef, Kate as marketer of restaurants.  “We have been looking to open a new restaurant for over a year,” explained Tom. “We flirted with the idea of taking over the space where Dulces once was [now Pritty Boys Pizza], but we are happy to finally be in our new space.”

Tom and Kate’s created Bea to be a neighborhood restaurant that is inviting for all of Seattle. “We want to be able to know our customers by name, but to also treat our first-time customers with the same attentiveness,” said Kate. To do that, Tom and Kate plan to be very involved in the restaurant. “We both live in Madrona so we will be here all the time,” explained Kate, “and we will be attentive to the entire dining experience.’

The restaurant space itself has been made over. When I was there the other night for the soft opening, the restaurant had a whole new aesthetics including and open kitchen and a larger bar area than what the previous restaurants featured.

The food is polished comfort food that is hyper-seasonal and uses ingredients from small, trusted farmers. Entrees are in the range of $18 to $22.

Be sure to make a reservation to try out one of the newest Seattle restaurants: Restaurant Bea.

Seattle Bars Could Have Extended Hours

The City Council approved a resolution this week that could mean extended bar hours.  The resolution asks the Liquor Control Board to let cities set closing times, which would prevent the “pushout” of bar patrons all at once at 2 am.  The initiative is backed by Mike McGinn, who firmly believes this could increase public safety.  For more information, please visit the Seattle Times article.

Seattle’s Best Sandwiches

Seattle Best SandwichThis is quick blog.  Saw an article in the Seattle Times today about best sandwiches in town.  I will say sandwiches are hard to judge.  While I have professed my love for certain sandwiches such as the Seatown Reuben, I have also heard great things about certain Seattle restaurants and their sandwiches that did not live up to the hype.  But that is only one layperson’s opinion.  I do not want to stop anyone from making their own calls on Seattle best sandwiches.  So without further ado, check out this article which I saw in the physical paper or this one which seems to have a lot more pictures.  Both are related articles by Nancy Leson of the Seattle Times.

Mioposto Caffe & Pizzeria

MiopostoAnyone who has visited the Mount Baker neighborhood in Seattle and driven passed the south end of Mt Baker Park has noticed the classic brick building that houses several businesses.  There in the southwest corner of the building sits Mioposto Caffe and Pizzeria with views of the park as well as the green space between Mount Baker Boulevard.   Mioposto comes from the same owners as Coastal Kitchen on 15th Avenue on Capitol Hill.  Mioposto is a great, family friendly pizza restaurant that is perfect for the neighborhood and Seattle alike.  Great all year round, the pizza place is especially fun in the summer when the big windows are open to let the breeze come off the park while the wood-burning oven cooks the thin crust pizza.  Order a pizza and a salad and enjoy it with wine or beer.  And if it is too early for pizza and a drink, then go in the morning for organic espresso and either pastries or frittatas/quiches.

A fun restaurant and a great excuse to drive to Seattle’s Mount Baker neighborhood if you have never been there.

Daniel’s Broiler Prime Steaks and Chops

Daniels BroilerIn the mornings I often hear Mitch in the Morning on KJR radio talk about his love for the Daniel’s Broiler Prime Steaks & Chops.  But even without the advertisements, Daniel’s is well known as one Seattle’s premier steak restaurants.  Probably the best known is Daniel’s on Lake Union or even in Bellevue, but the original is Daniel’s in Leschi.  It was started by Dan Sandal, who family roots took him back in the Seattle food business.  His grandfather, Dan Zido started two separate meat markets in the Pike Place Market.  Dan Zido’s son in-law, and Dan Sandal’s father sold to restaurants, thus Sandal had a great deal of exposure to the food industry.  With his experience, Sandal and partners started Benjamin’s which they later sold to the Schwartz Brothers.  Then in 1980, Sandal decided to open a restaurant bearing his name: Daniel’s.  A year later, he again sold to Schwartz Brothers who continued the tradition of his fine dining steakhouse.  Perfectly located on the shores of Lake Washington in the Leschi Marina it was a very convenient location for Mercer Island and Bellevue until they closed the I-90 entrance and exit on the east side of the tunnels when the second bridge was added.  In 1989 around the time I-90 was being upgraded, Daniel’s opened their Bellevue restaurant and shortly thereafter the restaurants went to exclusively serving USDA prime beef with the goal of becoming a world-class steakhouse.  In 1999, the former Benjamin’s space on South Lake Union became the third Daniel’s location.

Today, all three Daniel’s restaurants are Seattle favorites to eat a great steak and have a good time.
